The last couple of days we had our “Rookie days”. Once a quarter all new hires from all offices come together in Munich for a series of introductory presentations about conject, the company, the market and our products.

This afternoon I gave my presentation about the strategic direction of our products. On my way home I realized, we had had 9 people there and

one Russian
two Polish
one German from Dubai (=Expat)
one Australian
one Turkish
one Moldavian
two Germans

wow.

distance_effectLast week we moved all our tables into one corner of our office, creating a large open space on the other end of the office. Why did we do that? Didn’t we move into our large big new office precisely because we wanted to have more room. Yes, but it turns out that even two more meters between formerly adjacent tables reduce the amount and intensity of communication between those tables. >> more…
